 Tax Compliance

There are only two certainties in life: death and Taxes – as one famous statesman said. Almost everybody has to pay tax, but many (particularly those in business) find it difficult to negotiate their way through the myriad small items of legislation that may seem designed to trip you up.

Great Britain now has the longest tax code in the world, with all sorts of curious little provisions that are often written in jargon and seem to lack any common sense.

No one can hope to master all of these, but at Martin Bruno we do expect to be up to date with matters that relate to the taxes that businesses pay – Corporation Tax, Income Tax, National Insurance, VAT and Capital Gains Tax.  Inheritance Tax and Stamp Duty are also covered.

Even if you think that you have complied with everything, HM Revenue and Customs can –and frequently do – come back at people with an enquiry.  This can be a very expensive and stressful affair, and we recommend that you take out insurance to cover the fees of any full enquiries into your affairs.  That way, you can be sure that you are being well cared for without having to worry about the cost.

We offer such a policy through TaxWise Services Ltd who are specialist insurers in this field, click here for more information.

Tax Planning

Want to reduce your tax bill? That is not unusual and at Martin Bruno we will do our best to do whatever we can within the law to ensure that you pay as little as you need to HM Revenue and Customs.  Our proactive approach means that we will come to you with the ideas, rather than your having to pester us.

VAT Returns

Almost all businesses with a turnover of £73,000 a year need to be VAT registered and it is advantageous for many businesses that do not strictly speaking need it. Martin Bruno can advise you whether or not you need to register, whether (if you don’t) it would be good for you to register, and whether it would be helpful to be on the annual accounting, cash accounting or special flat rate schemes.  There is more to VAT than meets the eye!
